He's to blame...
I recently saw this picture posted on a "Time" magazine website. I thought it was quite amazing. I don't know the circumstances behind the situation or the outcome of the boat or the people on the boat. What I do know is that Wow! This would freak me out!
It reminded me of the verses in Psalm 107. I have always loved them because they remind me that God is in control even when we are out of control. Check out what it says:
"Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep. For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea. They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths; their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. Then they cxry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people, and praise Him in the assembly of the elders." ~Psalm 107:23-32
Did you get it? It says that "HE commands and raises the stormy wind"! It isn't until they are "at their wits' end" that they cry out to hte Lord and "HE" brings them out of their desitresses. This is such a reminder to me that God is in control of it all. In the end, He wants us to turn to Him. He can command it to start and He can command it to stop. Ultimately, it is all to point us towards Him.
Read again what the Psalmist says, "Oh! that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" We should be thankful in every circumstance. No matter how overwhelming it may seem.
As someone at sea, being overtaken by waves, they can do nothing of their own power except turn to God. We are the same way. In life, being overtaken by waves of doubt, depression, hopelessness, anger, loneliness, shame, guilt, circumstances,... you name it! We can do nothing of our own power except turn to God. Let God be God today. Remember that He is in control so call on Him!
